Sirs,
Reference to an e-mail posted yesterday re the above, I too had trouble with
the instructions/set-up etc & in the end managed to obtain a copy of a User
Manual (in English) for a CTU 902 decoder from Philips themselves. The unit is
very similar to the 900 model. If anybody is interested I will send them a
copy of the 902 manual if they send an SAE (A4 size if possible) to the
address that follows.

Best Regards

Yes,,o.k. Ray I`ll concede that point. However I feel it was CNN`s
influence that gave rise to Sky News and even some of its format -
remember the blatant copying of CNN`s programme "Crossfire" which Sky
nicked and put in Tebbitt and Mitchell in their version.

Depends on what sort of "facilities" you're referring to. CNN has had a
news bureau in London since its start in 1980; on the other hand, AFAIK the
CNN International service still comes from Atlanta. It's not a "European"
service, and isn't intended to be one any more than BBC World is.

Although I live in S.E England quite a long way from Zweibrucken. I can
tell your friends required dish size because I know the EIRP output (in dbw)
from the satellite.

You can receive -
Thor 2 at 49dbw = 80cm dish.
Thor 1 at 45dbw = 120cm dish.
Intelsat 707 at 46dbw = 100cm.

So it is up to your friend what dish size she wants, but I would of thought
she would want Intelsat 707 as well (for TV3, TV1000 etc). And Thor1 is
also worth considering.

As for type of dish I would recommend one of the channel master offset
dishes, as these are good quility at a good price.

Don't forget you want a good LNB as well and any of the 0.7db universal
type will do a good job.

I live in Stuttgart, Germany about 200km Southwest of Zweibrueken--think that
she should be able to get by with an 80-85 cm dish with a good LNB (.7 or
better). I have no real problem with that size except for TV1000 Cinema and
SciFi have lots of static/sparklies during the day, better as the night wears
on. To get Sirius (pardon the pun), she will need a 100cm dish except for TV5
(no probs with 80cm) and TV4 (lots of sparklies, but watchable).
