THE HEADLINES IN THIS REPORT:

- The never ending story...
- Hot Bird 2
- Arabsats
- Bits & Pieces

GORIZONT 24, 80 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/g24.html
-----------
Txm of TV6 on txpr 3.875 GHz, Rc, were interupted from this afternoon.
No other txpr was used, aslo not on Express 6 on the same position. RTR
on 3.675 GHZ, Rc, was available in normal quality.

INTELSAT 602, 63 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/i602.html
------------
The RTI feed txpr on 10.973 GHz, H, was txm in Syster/Nagravision this
afternoon and evening. The sound was not coded. Txm were movies/serials.

INTELSAT 703, 57 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/i705.html
------------
Ethiopian TV on txpr 43B, 3.917 GHz, Lc, features lately services in the
early morning from EETV (Ethiopian Educational Television).
The received quality of picture was excellent, the sound very poor,
however not due to an unusual bandwidth used.

GORIZONT 31, 40 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/g31.html
-----------
On txpr 10, 3.875 GHz, Rc, could a trial txm from Duna TV, Hungaria be
observed. The original sound carrier of 6.60 MHz was not featured,
therefore an empty carrier was on 7.50 MHz. It was an identical
broadcast as seen on Eutelsat II-F3, txpr 33, 11.596 GHz, H. This txpr
is at night time used by Rendez Vous.

Comment: Will Duna TV change satellites ? Known is that a txpr
reservation has been made for end '97/early '98 on the Amos 2, 4 West,
in co-position with Amos 1.
Possibly the present contract with Eutelsat is not renewed and a
short-time solution is required.

ARABSAT 1C, 30.5 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/a1c.html
----------
Already yesterday evening, but unfortunately after my mailing, ceased
EDTV Dubai on txpr 14 3.959 GHz, Lc. It is still receivable on Arabsat
2A and twice on the Hot Birds.

ARABSAT 2B, ? East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
The position of the Arabsat 2B is not known by me. It is already a few
days ago since the last test carrier was seen. Most probably the sat is
on the move from 22 East to 30.5 East, not able to test while passing
the strong Arabsat 2A with exactly the same up-link and down-link
frequencies.

Comment: Remarkably is that all earlier tested txpr have there
equivalent (approximately) in the still operating txpr on the Arabsat
1C. This could mean that when the Arabsat arrives on his future position
30.5 East, the change from the older to the newer satellite could begin
relatively quick. Other txpr could be tested during running operation.

ARABSAT 2A, 26 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/a2a.html
----------
Nile TV on txpr 5, 3.802 GHz, Rc, took today again his afternoon nap,
leaving out the endless teletext pages review. The txpr was shut down
during this time.

ART is promoting its DStv package on Arabsat 2A via the free-to-air
channels. One of the on-screen mentioned txpr frequencies is 12.521 GHz,
H, where presently JSC Al Gezeerah, Quatar is broadcasting. The Arabsat
and ART internet homepages mention both this txpr still as reserved for
ART.

Is the Quatari channel only a temporary user of this txpr ? The actual
MPEG2 txm of the ART are on txpr 3, 12.563 GHz, H, and txpr 9, 12.685
GHz, H, both with a symbol rate of 19638 and FEC of 7/8.

HOT BIRD 2, 13 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/hotbird.html
----------
Hot Bird is really firing up...
After TPS, EDTV Dubai, and ART, now after intitial trouble with the
up-link RTP Internacional on txpr 50, 11.727 GHz, V, widebeam.

RTI (Mediaset) is broadcasting in MPEG2 Italia Uno, Rete 4, Canal 5 and
a test signal on txpr 60, 11.919 GHz, V, widebeam. The txm is free to
air and can be received with D-Box, PACE and PANASAT IRD's. (exept
unfortunately in Egypt where a local software parental lock prohibites
everything above 16 years to be seen)
At various times a strong empty carrier could be observed prior to test
begin.

RAI, Italia started testing their txpr 52, 11.766 GHZ, V and txpr 54,
11.804 GHZ, V, with a digital carrier on the superbeam, no txm could be
observed.

Comment: It is nice to see that presently some broadcaster use the
widebeam for their initial MPEG2 txm. I feared we, in the Middle East,
would never see any of it. Probably it are only test txm, but who knows?
Let's hope for the best.

Canal Plus Polska has announced to take over the present EDTV Dubai txpr
on Hot Bird 1, txpr 15, 11.513 GHz, H, in January. Who takes the place
of Canal Plus on the Eutelsat II-f3, txpr 38. 11.617 GHz, V, is not yet
known.

Polonia 1 will return to the Hot Birds on the, for the new German
channel "Phoenix" reserved txpr 53, 11.785 GHz, H, and that soon. As
starting date is named the 20th of December. This will be a timely
restricted occupation; in case Phoenix raises from his ashes, Polonia 1
has to look again for a free txpr.

Comment: It has been noticed that various position shifts have taken
place on the 13 degrees satellite constelation. Owners of bigger dishes
have really trouble to get the dish precisely positioned. One could
really advise to store the individual sats on separate positions in the
receiver. I located Hot Bird 2 now exactly on 13 East, therefore moved
the Eutelsat II-f1 and Hot Bird 1 more to 13.5 East.

--- The Hot Bird story contains info's received from ---
--- Ghassan Tabet and Stefan Hagedorn. Thanks ! ---

AMOS 1, 4 West, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html
------
Txpr 6L, 11.653 GHz, V, is again activated with an empty carrier. Txpr
3, 11.159 GHz, V, was repeatingly used today for SNG.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
