WWOR Ends As A Superstation
NEW YORK, New York, USA, 97/01/04 (SHOPTALK) -- WWOR-TV, a New York
broadcast station, ceased operations as a superstation December 31 at 6am
after 17 years of being distributed via satellite by Eastern Microwave to
cable systems serving 12.5 million households mostly in the greater New
York area.

WWOR's satellite position has been occupied by Discovery Communications
new Animal Planet network. Cable operators reportedly were only notified of
the switch on December 23. Tele-Communications Inc., the nation's largest
operator, last month said superstations were in danger of being dropped.
