STET To Be Privatized
ROME, Italy, 96/08/13 (SATELIT TV VIDEO) -- The state monopoly on
telecommunications in Italy will soon be ended with the selling of the state
owned telecommunications giant STET. STET is made up of several smaller
holding companies and the biggest of them are Telecom Italia (telephony
operator) and Tim (mobile-phones).

However this privatization will also affect the satellite and cable
industry. Nuova Telespazio, responsible for all Italian satellite services,
as well as Stream and Italcable (cable companies) are owned by Stet. It is
expected that Stet will be placed on the market during the beginning of next
year.
