And now the news:

---------- HotBird 4 at 27 east
Eutelsat's HotBird 4 has reached its test slot already, only just over
week or so after launch, although not at 29 degrees east as expected.
The satellite seems to be testing at 27 degrees east, presumably to
avoid interference with DFS Kopernikus which broadcasts in the Ku-High
Band like HotBird 4 at 28.5 degrees east. The higher frequencies (from
about 12,616 H and above) are actually being tested lower at just above
12,200 H to further avoid interference.

---------- Astra 1D at 26.5 east
Astra 1D has also finished its journey east and is now performing tests
at 26.5 degrees east, just half a degree away from HotBird 4! The two
satellites are clearly distinguishable nonetheless. The satellite will
probably continue moving east to 28.2 degrees, its announced slot, soon.
Transmissions are expected around mid-March, probably the 16th,
presumably starting with BIB (BSkyB Digital).

Reception reports on these two satellites are most welcome! If you wish
to send in a reception report, it will be displayed here on the
Sat-UK-News mailing list. You can also send in reception reports on the
Sat-UK-Club mailing list. Please be sure to include your location, dish
size, LNB strength and picture quality. Dom.
