News about satellite TV from Russia.
NTV+ don't hurry to respect own customers

Subscribers of first Russian satellite Direct-To-Home package NTV+
were colliding with unexpected difficulties. Most of them who were in time
to pay for subscription for June watching didn't succeed to catch NTV+
channels since 19th June. The management of NTV+ decided to begin a blocking
of subscribers keys since this day (not since 1st June). The result was that
the people who made payment for their subscription were suffered from this
also. This blocking was turned on during only a few hours per day since 19th
until 22nd June but it seems all was clear in the strategy of NTV+: everybody
will be switched off for the sake of other subscribers must pay.
The blocking of keys was turned on again since 23rd June but for all time
except of NTV+ Sport channel which remained watchable for every previous
and present subscriber. A refreshment of a keys of subscribers began since
that day but in very slow motion. Many subscribers who didn't want to wait
too much called NTV+ and asked operators switch on a key of their decoders.
What should we wait from 36 East position ?

It's well known about the GALS satellites which are using for transmission
of NTV+ package are in position 36 degrees of East Longitude now. But what
should we wait from that position in future ? Especially for those who had
a dishes pointed to the position 36 East ?
Probably first of all it will be not new Russian satellite GALS-R 16. The
perspectives of building and launch of that satellite are very unclear now
due to a difficulties with money. It seems first of all one of EUTELSAT's
satellite will be in that position before. As most of you know EUTELSAT
will launch new satellite called W24 F1 for the position 10 East this
winter (December 1997 or January 1998). Old satellite called EUTELSAT
II F2 will be moved to the position 36 East after this event.
EUTELSAT is not afraid of the situation then two different operators
(EUTELSAT and INFORMKOSMOS - the owner of GALS satellites) will have own
satellites in one geostationary position because every operator will use
own frequencies.
New unscrambled radio channels from GALS satellites
---------------------------------------------------
Last week of June gave us a beginning of unscrambling transmissions of
two new radio channels from Moscow in Russian on GALS satellites -
"Silver Rain" and "Echo of Moscow". This event became a small consolation
for those who suffered from NTV+ efforts.
Lets remind you that the owner of GALS satellites is INFORMKOSMOS
company but not NTV+. NTV+ is renting a transponders only.
"Silver Rain" is the radio channel of modern music. The transmission
goes from the transponder of Sport channel 11,765 GHz in stereo using
subcarriers 7,38/7,56 MHz.
"Echo of Moscow" is the radio station well known with its fresh news
and very interesting information programs. The transmission of this
station goes from the transponder of Nashe Kino (Our Cinema) channel
12,169 Ghz also in stereo using subcarriers 7,74/7,92 MHz.
Changes on TV6-MOSCOW
---------------------
Some programs will begin disappear from famous TV6-MOSCOW Russian channel
since 1st June. These programs are "Rates of the week", "Discovery of the
week", "90x60x90", "Paris, Paris", "The club of lonely hearts" and
"We didn't learn it". Such programs like "The Evening in Embassy" and
"12 copecks" will hold on a little more time - until 1st August.
The owners of the channel worry about the lack of popularity of
TV6-Moscow among the TV-viewers in Russia and don't want make a deals with
creators of many programs.
Now TV6-MOSCOW is broadcasted only via Express-6 satellite (80E) using
a frequency 3,875 Ghz.
Probably more surprices will wait a viewers of D2-MAC channels in Russia
------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of most unpleasant surprice for viewers of D2-MAC channels in
Russia was a low power of new THOR 2A satellite on most territory of
Russia. Real strength of the signal is significantly less than the
one written on the footprint map. As a result the reception of THOR 2A will
not be possible using a dishes of small sizes except of the region which
is close to the border of Nordic countries.
Considering this fact it can be an introduction to very unpleasant
surprise in future. The matter is new satellite THOR 3 will be launched
in 1998 and Kinnevik have an idea to move its own channels (TV1000 is among
them) from INTELSAT 707 satellite to new THOR 3.
But D2-MAC decoders can serve their owners in Russia because famous
French erotic channel Rendezvous will transmit from 1st July via HOT BIRD 2
satellite on 11,785 Ghz using D2-MAC.
New TV-channel appears in Russia

According to the initiative of Moscow head Yury Luzhkov a new TV-channel
was created in Russia instead of the former 3 TV-channels. The name of new
channel is TV Center. The sacrifices are 2x2, MTK and Podmoskovie channels.
The explaination which is more frequently published in papers is Luzhkov
don't like the situation then the a money of Moscow government for these
3 channels dissapear in unknown direction.
Anatoly Lysenko - The head of TV Center - said: "3 former channels
became regional channels with not interesting programs".
But the viewers will not mark a changes too soon. Due to a fear to lose
some audience new head of TV Center will continue to show such programs
like soap operas, "Blue Light", "Autoshow". New attractive feature of
TV Center must be a new package of foreign and Russian movies purchased
by new channel. New channel wants to compete with with main Russian channels
since this autumn.
A special feature of TV Center must be live news coverage from any point
of Moscow. There will be purchased modern mobile equipment for this purpose.
DX-ers observed a broadcasting of TV Center from INTELSAT 604 satellite
(60E) in digital MPEG-2 mode on 11,515 Ghz. The channel also transmitted
via terrestrial TV in Moscow.
