Some remarks to the last SAT-MidEast report 97.02.26:

From Ghassan Tabbet in Lebanon:
-- LBC (Lebanon) on Arabsat 2A, 26 East, 3.977 GHz, Lc, in MPEG-2.
Ghassan Tabbet in Lebanon could receive this signal with the d-box. It
is a feed from LBC Lebanon to Italy of LBC-Plus and LBC-Sat

The Egyptian MPEG-2 package on Intelsat 703, 4.135 GHz, Lc, with the
channels:
-- ESC-1, Nile TV, Egypt Al-Oula, Egypt Al-Thania, has following
reception data: SR 26950, FEC 3/4. Ghassan Tabbet in Lebanon could not
lock onto this signal with a 1.8 m dish.

From Lisa, Rome:
-- The above mentioned MPEG package is part of the Orbit Network. It is
a backhaul used to bring the Egyptian channels to the Orbit headquarters
in Rome from which they are added [multiplexed-ed] to the up-link

The translation into English of the IBA message card in Hebrew on
INTELSAT 707, 1 West, courteously supplied by Avry Ninio:

From this saturday [[01/03/97-ed] IBA CH1 and IBA CH3 will move from
Intelsat to the Amos satellite and the transmission on Intelsat (1 West)
will be closed for good.
Commercial Channel 2 will remain on Intelsat for the time being and will
be moved to Amos 1 sometime in April.
Additionally some details on frequencies and local elevation where
given.

Channel details can be found on http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html

Thanks also to Oded Kleiner: (http://www.run.co.il) and "Anonymous" for
their submitted translations.

EXPRESS 6, 80 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e6.html
---------
Observed yesterday on 3.875 Ghz, Rc, an early morning Intersputnik test
card, while actually TV6 was supposed to be transmitting. At the same
time a PAL colorbar test card on 3.985 Ghz, Rc, with a subcarrier on
6.60 MHz.
The frequency of 4.125 Ghz, Rc, was without recognizable signal; AST/ACT
on 4.025 GHz, Rc, was transmitting as normal, in superb quality.

TURKSAT 1C, 42 East, http://www.satcodx.com/t1c.html
----------
Transponder 12, 10.968 Ghz, H, has been shortly activated for a renewed
test by Turk Telekom. A colorbar test card was shown in, this time, poor
quality.

GORIZONT 31, 40 East, http://www.satcodx.com/g31.html
-----------
Rendez-Vous on 3.875 Ghz, Rc, got missing in action after an on-screen
message transmitted in the night from 26 to 27 February. The message
requested viewers to contact the Paris telephone number. (Rendez-Vous
was wrongly spelled on the displayed card).
Today transmission were resumed, but staring time was later as usual.

ARABSAT 2B, 30.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
Mauretania on transponder 9, 3.878 GHz, Rc, is lately very weak, it can
be hardly resolved in Cairo. Transmission of RTM1 on transponder 11,
3.925 Ghz, Rc, therefore has been stabilized in a good quality, but
still not as good as a similar transponder on the Arabsat 2A.
An ASBU feed could be observed on transponder 13, 3.978 GHz, Rc, in a
superb quality, with signal levels as seen on Arabsat 2A.

Christian Lyngemark reported earlier a good reception of the two steady
channels (transponder 9 and 11), equally good as the reception of medium
power C-Band transponder on the Arabsat 2A.

Yesterday a soccer game was transmitted on transponder 13, 3.978 GHz, in
a very good quality, and picked up for re-transmission by RTM1 on
transponder 11, in a minor quality.

HOT BIRD 1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb1.html
----------
Germany top music channel VIVA has been observed with test signals on
11,371 H, MPEG-2, SR 4000, FEC 3/4, VPID 0456, APID 04BB. However in the
Middle East only receivable with the D-Box or Nokia's Mediamaster 9500.
PACE 500 and PANASAT 520 IRD's will not be able to receive the Symbol
Rate below 15000.

Expect the analogue ceasure of MCM on transponder 5. 11.307 GHz, H,
tonight. MCM is then, free-to-air, only available to the Middle East as
the MCM Africa version from Intelsat 601, 27.5 West, 3.650 GHz, Rc. For
further information on the various future MCM versions on this
transponder, in MPEG-2 format, refer to the satco-dx hb1 page as
mentioned in the paragraph's title.

No changes could be observed however at midnight CET. MCM will also
further be available as Pay-TV in the 1stNet DStv package from Panamsat
4 at 68.5 East.

Polsat 2 on transponder 7, 11.345 Ghz, H, will officially take up
transmissions from March 1st: 08:00 CET. Throughout the day a test card
was shown, with a running digital clock, a Polsat 2 logo in the upper
right corner and the word "TEST" in the lower right corner of the
screen. Direct after midnight an inverted picture appeared with Polish
popular music videos and sound on subcarrier 6.60 MHz.
PolSat will initially transmit movies, mainly in the original languages,
with Polish voice-over.

The Telepiu transponder 4, 11.283 GHz, V, is still in MPEG-2 use.
Expected is here, from early April, the appearance of German music
channel MIC-TV, with analogue, free-to-air transmissions, at start-up 12
hours daily only.

EUTELSAT II-f1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f1.html
--------------
It would be nice if I could have a confirmation of Mediamaster 9500
owners, in the Middle East, if NBC Europe's test card on 11.020 V,
MPEG-2, SR 6111, FEC 3/4, VPID 00A0, APID 0050, can be received in this
part of the world.
It is supposed to be on the widebeam, just above the normal NBC
transmissions on transponder 25, 10.987 GHz, V. (E-mail
to:<hcroom@intouch.com>)

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
IBA Channel 1, on transponder 73A, 11.136 GHz, V, and IBA Channel 3 on

the Amos 1 satellite on 4 West from 01/03/97. Transmissions have ceased
at midnight 01/03/97 on Intelsat 707.
Commercial Channel 2 will remain for the time being on the Intelsat, and
will be moved to Amos 1 in April this year.
What will happen of the lower half of transponder 111X is officially not
known by me, at the moment the test card is still shown, even after the
ceasure of IBA 1 and IBA 3. The feeds will appear most probably on Amos
1 as well.

AMOS 1, 4 West, http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html

Transponder 1L, 10.968 GHz, V, IBA channel 1; Transponder 1U, 11.005
GHz, V, IBA channel 3. IBA 1 has at night time only an empty carrier.

INTELSAT 705, 18 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i705.html

feed on 4.166 GHz, Rc, in NTSC, and a subcarrier on 6.60 MHz

INTELSAT 515, 21 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i515.html
------------
Tele Sahel on 3.925 GHz, Rc, can now at times be seen in the early
morning (about 7:00 CET) with educational feeds. Sound remains only in
SCPC 1209.37.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt

BTW: I spend today a couple of hours in the pool, on my day-off, while
spring has arrived in Egypt, with daytime temperatures of over 24
degrees Celsius. Don't be worried in the high north, it will also arrive
up there, eventually...later this year. ;-)
