THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.02.03 REPORT:

- No headlines today
- but a lot of
- Bits & Pieces

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
The Showtime DStv package has started to promote some of the announced
new channels. In breaks between broadcasts on other channels
promo-videos of the "Style" channel (Woman's Interest's) are presented.
It is also for the first time that Showtime spots, completely in Arabic
speech and writing, are transmitted. An exact startdate for these new
channels is not published yet, however should be expected around the
middle of the month of February.

The ONTV programm listing channel has not re-appeared. Listings for the
present programming can be downloaded, in one go, for all channels (a
couple of minutes for the whole of February) from the much improved
Showtime pages:

INTELSAT 704, 66 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i704.html
------------
Indian channel Ennade TV, on 4.050 GHz, Lc, has since the 1st of
Feburary improved in quality, due to the ceasure of CFI on the opposite
polarization, with frequency 4.055 GHz, Rc. It is assumed that CFI
transferred it's broadcasts to digital modus, however reception
parameters are not yet known.

Even before I could ask the question, I got already the explanation from
SATCO-DX. Thanks Christian !

GALS 1/2, 36 East, http://www.satcodx.com/gals1.html
--------
The scrambling of the NTV plus programming has been delayed for another
week and will be partly activated from February 10th. Some
Syster/Nagarvision testing can be observed during the day time
transmissions.

EUTELSAT II-f3, 16 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f3.html
--------------
Canal plus Polska on transponder 38, 11.617 GHz, V, seems to cease in
slow-motion. During the weekend all broadcasts took place as normal,
only on Monday morning the dia with the transfer message was been shown
again. At 20:00 CET this evening normal broadcast was taken up again.

HOT BIRD 2, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb2.html
----------
The transition from analogue to MPEG2 digital broadcasts for the ART on
transponder 65, 12.015 GHz, V. does not seem to be without glitches.
On a daily bases test broadcasts with a Symbolrate of 27500, and FEC of
3/4 can be received, showing ART Europe in quadro, LBC Sat and some tes
cards, however, analogue broadcasts from ART Europe is daily taken up
again from 14:00 CET.

INTELSAT 515, 21.5 West, http://www.satcodx.com/ik.html
------------
Tele Sahel from Niger on frequency 3.915 GHz, Rc, is since a couple of
days crystal clear receivable in Cairo, no sparks what-so-ever and
brilliant in colour. Unfortunately the sound is still only in SCPC
(1209.37) receivable.

INTELSAT 601, 27.5 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i601.html
------------
The Multichoice Africa promotional channel appeared today for the first
time with the correct, English spoken, sound track to the shown pictures
on 6.60 MHz. The M-Net promo tape on this frequency was switched off.
Promoted is the Multichoice Africa package transmitted on four C-Band
transponder, presently from Panamsat 4, 68.5 East.
If additional C-band capacity has been leased, for a more westward
oriented transmission, on either an Intelsat or the Panamsat 3-R is
unknown by me.

Between the individual channel promotions, contact telephone numbers and
the national colours of two African states are shown. The countries are
changed all the time, so if you want to update your knowledge about
national flags and international dialing codes: check this channel out.

-----------
As you have noticed is Sat-MidEast presently not submitted on a daily
basis. This is not resulted out of a personal crisis, it's just the fact
that the local news market and transponder changes do not give enough
news for daily reports, at the time. As soon as this changes and things
will run wild, the reports will come in more frequently again.

The SAT-MidEast homepages on sat-net.com have been updated with the
reports up to 97.02.01. Other updates take place constantly, so it makes
sense to check it out once and a while.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
