THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.01.27 REPORT:

- KHABAR TV On Air
- Arabsat 2B
- GALS 1/2
- Express 2
- Bits & Pieces

INTELSAT 703, 57 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/i703.html
------------
On transponder 69 (?) with a frequency 11.650 GHz, H, started today
Khabar TV, a second channel from Kasachstan. A sound carrier can be
found on 7.00 MHz. Reception quality in Cairo is good, almost sparkfree
(5%), with an acceptable sound quality.

These transmissions are by far stronger than the transmissions of Kazakh
TV on transponder 115, 11.550 GHz, H, which was also on air today, but
closed early as usual. Khabar TV was on air, one hour longer, until
20:00 CET (Midnight Kazachstan)

TURKSAT 1C, 42 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/t1c.html
----------
After a couple of days showing a colorbar test card, transponder 12,
10.969 GHz, H, was again switched off.

GALS 1/2, 36 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/gals1.html
--------
Sergey Kolosha reports a possible inclination of one of the Gals
satellites.
After watching the NTV plus channels for a while, I can only confirm a
improved reception of Mir Kino on 11.919 GHz, Rc, in Cairo, with a
higher quality sound as well.

The better quality is however stable, which indicates a slight
re-orientation of the beam southwards, and not an inclined orbit of the
satellite itself.

ARABSAT 2B, 30.5 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
Nothing much new from this satellite; transponder 7, 3.843 GHz, Rc and
11, 3.920 GHz, Rc, are mostly used for feeds. Syria, Jordan, Abu Dhabi
and Saudia could be observed today. The signal strength has improved but
cannot match the quality of the Arabsat 2A yet.

EUTELSAT II-f3, 16 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/e2f3.html
--------------
Canal Plus Polski announced today on screen, the ceasure of the
transmissions on transponder 38, 11.617 GHz, V, widebeam, on this
satellite from 30 January.
Canal Plus Polski will still be available from Hot Bird 1, transponder
15, 11.516 GHz, V, mainly scrambled.

EXPRESS 2, 14 West, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/e2.html
---------
Transponder 9, previous used by TV Malagasy, even from me announced
dead, was very much alive and kicking this afternoon. I saw a strong,
almost spark free, test card on 3.825 GHz, Rc, with a clear sound
carrier on 6.60 MHz. The test card reminded me of a Portuguese type.

PANAMSAT 3-R, 43 East, SATCO-DX: http://www.satcodx.com/pas3r.html
------------
An unusual strong feed from this satellite, in almost perfect quality,
could be received this evening until 23:15 CET, on frequency 12.590 GHz,
V. It was a transmission for Sony via INTRAX HOL 12 from Amsterdam.
Sound was carried on 6.60, 7.20 and 7.50 MHz.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
