NBC Asia To Cut Programming - WSJ

Tokyo, Japan, 16 April 1998 (TS-ASIA) -- NBC Asia is set to drastically
scale back programming from July, according to a report in the Thursday
edition of the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper said NBC Asia will carry
a few NBC News programs and otherwise consist largely of programming from
National Geographic. It has seven million subscribers in Asia.

The news comes just a month after another American broadcaster, CMT, closed
its European service because of a lack of revenues from the service.

The company's European service, NBC Europe, will also see scaled back
programming. NBC's international push began several years ago when it
bought the faltering Super Channel service in Europe. This was subsequently
expanded to Asia to become NBC Asia.
