HEAVY LOSSES FOR SAT 1
- Private station deep in the red zone
mcr Mainz. Sat 1 is very deep in the red zone. The station made losses of 165
million Deutschmarks, last year reported Sat 1-executive Fred Kogel. As a
cause, Kogel named high write-offs of 180 million Deutschmarks for the
program-assets. Sat 1 wants to invest 1,25 billion Deutschmarks for programing
this year. Real Profits are expected for 1999, said Kogel, but expects black
figures at the end of this year as well.

BREAKTHROUG FOR DEUTSCHE WELLE-TV IN THE USA
- Full cable distribution in Florida
mcr Cologne. Deutsche Welle-TV calls it a breakthrough on the American market.
Cableprovider MIG Groups Communications Inc. in West Palm Beach transmits
Deutsche Welle-TV 24 hours a day. According to the DWs chief of distributio,
Burkard Nowotny, will DW-tv reach four million households in a few months in
Florida.
This rebroadcasting is based on a temporary license from the FCC. Last year
DW-tv started in Canada.

ELITZ BEGINS SECOND TERM IN OFFICE IN APRIL 1999
- Director of DeutschlandRadio has no opposition
mcr Berlin. The so called radio-board of the DeutschlandRadio Berlin has
confirmed Ernst Elitz for a second term in office as director of the station.
His second term will begin in April 1999. He sees his work for the station
confirmed. Elitz expressed his happiness about the increase in FM-Frequencies
for the DeutschlandRadio in all of Germany. DeutschlandRadio also broadcasts
digitally via ASTRA.

- ORF Zib3 are news with a fresh touch
If you can speek german and watch some them newsprograms, you could have
noticed, that they all look quite the same. But news with a different touch do
exist. The ORF, transmitting digitally via ASTRA, produced the latenight news
ZiB3 (Zeit im Bild 3). Apart from breaking stories, they always have some
inside in culture or some pieces that make you smile. ZiB3 can be seen around
midnight every weekday on ORF.
